Safety Net or Anchor?

Oct 30, 2011

Just a reminder for tomorrow:  We're checking binders (now including your CNN Logs) and Skyward access tomorrow!  Totaled together, that's 65 points.  Throw in your vocabulary (due Wednesday), that's 120 points!  The question is, what will YOU do with the opportunity?  These things should create a nice safety net for you - if you take care of business.  If not, you're getting ready to attach a huge anchor to your grade.  Make the right decision; TCB!

Click the graphic below to check on your Skyward access and check your classroom guidelines for instructions on how to set up your binder.  If you've lost it or don't have it with you, click here (Western Civ:  the guidelines are the same for you as for U.S. History).

"See You Tomorrow Night!"

Oct 28, 2011

Wow.  What a game!  The question is, how many people actually stuck around to watch it?  If you gave up and changed the channel or never turned on game 6 to begin with, you missed what many are calling the greatest battle in the history of the World Series.  Regardless of whether or not you were watching, we are now going to a game 7, which rarely happens, and hasn't at all in the past 10 years.  In other words, this series just went "from good to great" as the writer of the above-mentioned article points out.

So, did you stay up, or give up?  How do you think last night's game will be remembered in the years to come?  Or the series itself?  How about the Cardinals' season as a whole?  How important do you think the game of baseball is to American culture?  Does it still matter?

    The Return of McRib-Mania

    Oct 26, 2011

People are 'maniacs' about lots of things in America (i.e. Harry Potter, Star Wars, sports teams, bands, etc.)  So what inspires people to be so dedicated to things like the McRib?  Does dedication to something like a sandwich signify a problem in America?  What do you think about McDonald's marketing technique of making certain products available "for a limited time only"?  Are you a "McManiac"?

        How Bad are the Colts?

Note even two full seasons after the two teams met in the Super Bowl, the Saints beat the Colts 62-7.  If I could put numbers in "all caps", I would.  I know Peyton Manning is great, but wow.  The Colts have already lost more games this season than they have in any other single season in the past 10 years.  On the other end of the spectrum, Drew Brees, like Tom Brady, is on pace to break Dan Marino's single season yardage record.  Several other Saints are on a record-breaking pace.  You can check out more historical happenings from what was an otherwise pretty boring weekend in the NFL in this article at Inhistoric.

So, after seeing what the Colts have done this year, how much do you think one player can mean to a team?  What do you think about teams that run up the score?  Is it more on the team that's doing the scoring, or the team that's being scored on?
